Qigong
Qigong, the ancient Chinese Internal Arts practice, has been used for generations to enhance health and maintain general well-being. An important aspect of Qigong is meditation which disciplines the mind, enabling one to be more alert yet calm. This greater awareness of how the body naturally functions without the interference of physical and emotion tension is the foundation for the healing potential of Qigong.
There are many benefits to the practice of Qigong which often entails gentle, repetitive movements. As such it can accomodate people with limited physical ability and compromised health. Another aspect of Qigong involves self-massage and postures which 'tune-up' different parts of the body, enhance coordination, limberness and balance. Other techniques strengthen the eyes or legs, relieve back pain and arthritis. Several studies have shown that standing Qigong helps to stave off the progressive deterioration caused by osteoporosis.
Gar Wang studied with two great masters of the Chinese Internal Arts, Jou Tsung-hwa and B.P. Chan. It is in their memory that Gar shares with gratitude what they so generously taught her. She has taught for 10 years at her studio in Warwick NY and gives workshops at Tai Chi Fesitvals.
