Tibetan Chokhur Festival: The Turning of the Wheel of Dharma

August 3, 2008 - Sunday 10 am- 5 pm

The Palden Sakhya Center is presenting the Chokhar Festival here at Pumpkin Hollow Retreat Center for the second time. Chokhor is one of the four most important holidays for the Buddhists. It is the day when Buddha taught the Dharma to the world for the first time. Chokhur means “Turning the Wheel of Dharma”, setting in motion the Truth, Peace, and Happiness that will eventually bring Freedom to the World.
The festival is a wonderful opportunity to learn and experience the Tibetan culture: its spirituality, its arts and people. Lama Pema will be sharing Buddhist Dharma talks along with leading group meditations. Other activi-ties planned are: hoisting the Tibetan Prayer Flags for Peace, traditional music and songs, tasty and unique Tibetan food, demonstrations of Tibetan calligraphy, the printing of prayer flags, and a display of Tibetan Thangkas. These varied activities will be scheduled and repeated throughout the Festival Day.
A Tibetan doctor will offer individual health interviews. Various vendors will also be present in order to share traditional Tibetan foods, clothing, music and other items hand-made by Tibetans. Sunday August 3rd from 10:00 am to 5 pm. Entrance Fee: suggested donation - $7 per person

A special invitation
to come at 10 promptly for the opening ritual: walking the trails of Pumpkin Hollow Retreat Center as Lama Pema chants blessings for all sentient beings.
